Amnesty International and CAJ urge Northern Ireland's Policing Board to investigate alleged unlawful surveillance of journalists by police.

Amnesty International and CAJ have called on Northern Ireland's Policing Board to investigate allegations of unlawful covert surveillance of journalists by the police, expressing serious concerns over the extent of such surveillance practices. The call comes after the Investigatory Powers Tribunal (IPT) examined allegations that award-winning journalists Barry McCaffrey and Trevor Birney were unlawfully surveilled by UK authorities following their arrest in 2018. The Policing Board will consider the correspondence at its monthly meeting.
