US Carlyle Group acquires majority stake in London Southend Airport, settling £193.75M debt with Esken Ltd.
US private equity firm Carlyle Group will take a majority stake in London Southend Airport after agreeing a deal to settle a £193.75 million debt with the current owner, Esken Ltd. Esken will keep a 17.5% stake in the airport, while Carlyle will convert the loan into an 82.5% equity stake. The deal comes after Esken's initial plan to bring back other operators to the airport fell through.
