Taoiseach Leo Varadkar stated that a proposed asylum policy by the European People's Party (EPP) to deport irregular migrants to "safe" third countries is not the European equivalent of the UK's Rwanda policy. The EPP's draft manifesto suggests migrants applying for asylum in the EU could be transferred to a safe third country and undergo the asylum process there. Varadkar emphasized that any proposals would respect human rights.
