Irish garda cleared by disciplinary inquiry for giving unclaimed bicycle to elderly man during pandemic.
A rural Irish garda who was temporarily suspended after giving an unclaimed bicycle to a local elderly man during the pandemic has been cleared by an internal disciplinary inquiry. The officer, who was investigated after it emerged he gave the bike away without filling out the required paperwork, had been suspended and faced disciplinary proceedings with charges including discreditable conduct and misuse of property. Following the inquiry, the garda was reinstated to duty last summer. The Garda Representative Association (GRA) has welcomed the outcome, stating that the case had "blown apart" efforts at good community policing.
