The new system will feature a single league competition, with each team playing eight matches against eight different opponents. The top eight teams after the league phase will proceed to the round of 16, and teams ranked between 9th and 24th will participate in a two-legged knockout playoff for the remaining spots. The reform includes no country protection in the knockout rounds and addresses additional places in the Champions League.
