The Philippines and US to hold larger Balikatan military drills in South China Sea and Taiwan areas amid China tensions.
The Philippines and US will hold military drills in key locations, including islands facing the South China Sea and Taiwan, amid ongoing tensions with China. The annual exercises, called Balikatan or "shoulder-to-shoulder", will shift from countryside military camps to locations in northern and western regions. This year's drills, expected to be larger than the 17,000-strong exercises in 2023, will focus on cybersecurity training and "information warfare".
