Electric vehicles emit more particulate matter and soot due to increased tire wear, researchers find.
A new study has found that electric vehicles (EVs) can emit more particulate matter and soot than gas-powered cars, due to increased tire wear. Researchers discovered that, on average, EVs are 30% heavier than gasoline vehicles, leading to faster tire wear and the release of tiny toxic particles into the atmosphere. Brakes and tires in EVs release 1,850 times more particulate matter than modern exhaust pipes with emission filters.
