1 billion people worldwide live with obesity, with rates more than doubling since 1990, according to a new report by The Lancet. The study found obesity rates among adults have quadrupled among children and adolescents since 1990, and the condition is particularly prevalent in South-East Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The World Health Organisation (WHO) warns obesity can lead to noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and certain cancers.
