13,000-year-old Lala Lallia star dune in Morocco, formed in areas with complex wind regimes.
Scientists have revealed that the Lala Lallia star dune in Morocco is 13,000 years old, using luminescence dating to measure the last time sand grains were exposed to light. The dune, rising 100 meters with a width of 700 meters, took 900 years to form, with the upper part being formed within the last 1,000 years. The formation of Lala Lallia supports the theory that star dunes develop in areas with complex wind regimes.
