Japan releases nuclear-contaminated wastewater from Fukushima into Pacific Ocean, amid opposition.

Japan has initiated its fourth round of releasing nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean, despite opposition from locals and the international community. Approximately 7,800 tons of wastewater, containing tritium, will be discharged over 17 days, with over 30,000 tons estimated to be released during six months starting in August 2023. This raises concerns about the global marine environment, human health, and the internal management of Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Company.
