Driver stopped for careless middle-lane hogging on M60, facing £100 fine and penalty points.

Police criticised a driver on social media for "inconsiderate and careless" behaviour after they were caught hogging the middle lane of a motorway, travelling at just 45mph. The driver was stopped by police on the M60 near Oldham and reported for careless driving. Middle-lane hogging is considered a traffic offence under "careless driving" legislation, with new laws introduced in 2013 allowing police to issue on-the-spot fines of £100 and three penalty points for careless driving.
