Church of England advised to increase £100m slavery fund to at least £1bn and improve apology.

The Church of England has been advised by its oversight group to significantly increase a £100m fund to address its historic links to slavery, after a report found the initial sum was "not enough". The group recommended that the Church should increase the fund to at least £1bn and speed up its delivery. The report also called for the Church to apologise for denying that black Africans are created in the image of God and for its deliberate actions to destroy diverse African religious belief systems. The programme of investment is intended to be ultimately owned and run by black communities.
