32-year-old Xavier Lucas, suspected of fatally shooting 30-year-old Deshawn Pledger in Portland's Hazelwood neighborhood on Jan. 8, has been arrested in California. The Portland Police Bureau announced his arrest and stated Lucas is awaiting extradition back to Oregon, where he will face charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. This marks the first recorded homicide of 2024 in Portland.
