Meta discontinues US and Australian news tab service due to low user engagement, shifting focus to short-form video content.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is ending its news tab service in the US and Australia as not enough users were visiting the platform to read news. Launched in 2019, the news tab featured deals for publishers, but it was shut down in the UK, France, and Germany last year. Meta stated that audiences for the service dropped by 80% in the US and Australia last year, with news content making up less than 3% of what users saw on their feed. Meta will now focus its time and resources on short-form video content.
