Malaysian Home Minister denies planning to amend online media regulation and attributes increase in underage rape cases to lack of outreach and education.
Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail denied allegations of planning to amend the Printing Presses and Publications Act to regulate online media, instead focusing on raising infractions compound amounts. He refuted the claim that the rise in underage rape cases is due to weak civil law or unimplemented Shariah enactments, stating that Muslim-led Kelantan has the highest underage rape cases despite its own Shariah criminal code. Saifuddin suggested addressing the issue through outreach and education programs.
