A Brazilian court orders Meta to stop using the name "Meta" in Brazil within 30 days due to a prior registration by a local tech firm.
A Brazilian court has ordered Meta, parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, to stop using the name "Meta" in Brazil within 30 days. The court's decision follows a lawsuit filed by a Brazilian tech firm, Meta Serviços em Informática, which registered "Meta" in 2008, prior to Meta's 2021 rebrand. The older company, founded in 1990, faced wrongful legal actions meant for Meta. Meta can appeal the decision.
