Babcock has secured a £560m contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to extend the life of one of the country's nuclear-armed submarines, HMS Victorious, by 15 years or more, ensuring it remains operational until at least the 2030s. The refit, taking place at Babcock's dockyard in Devonport, will involve the replacement, inspection or refurbishment of 90% of the sub's equipment and systems. The deal is anticipated to sustain around 1,000 jobs at Devonport.
