The Dutch government has spent €166m ($180m) on the aftermath of the MH17 disaster, including expenses on crisis management, repatriation of victims, investigation and prosecution of those involved. The Boeing 777 was shot down on July 17, 2014, using a Russian-made Buk missile fired from eastern Ukraine controlled by separatist rebels, killing all 298 passengers and crew, including 196 Dutch citizens.
