The UK Government's proposal to double the power of e-bikes from 250 watts to 500 watts and remove the requirement for motor assistance to only function when the user is pedalling has raised safety concerns, as campaigners say it would blur the line between e-bikes and electric motorbikes. The Department for Transport (DfT) is consulting on the changes, which are aimed at increasing e-bike usage as part of the Government's promotion of active travel.
