Thailand to ban recreational cannabis use by year-end, while maintaining medical use.

Thailand's Health Minister, Cholnan Srikaew, announced that the country will ban recreational cannabis use by the end of this year while continuing to allow its use for medical purposes. The ban comes after the Southeast Asian nation legalized recreational marijuana use in 2022, leading to a surge in cannabis shops and the industry becoming worth up to $1.2 billion. A new law is being drafted to regulate cannabis use, which includes specific fines for recreational use and requires permits for import, export, cultivation, and commercial use of cannabis.
