Slovakia's Constitutional Court halted parts of the government's criminal law overhaul, including reduced punishment for corruption and fraud.

Slovakia's Constitutional Court has halted parts of the government's criminal law overhaul that aimed to reduce punishment for crimes such as corruption and fraud. The court did not reject plans to abolish the Office of Special Prosecutor. Critics, including the European Commission and opposition parties, have expressed concerns over the lack of debate, reduction of punishments for financial crimes, and shortening of statutes of limitations. The affected parts of the reform will not enter into effect on March 15 and will be subject to further deliberations by the court.
