Scientists discovered a new species of tropical fish, Halichoeres sanchezi or the tailspot wrasse, during an expedition to the Revillagigedo Islands, a marine biodiversity hotspot off the Pacific coast of Mexico. The species, endemic to the area, ranges in size from an inch to nearly six inches and is believed to be hermaphroditic. This discovery brings the total number of endemic fish species in the Revillagigedo Archipelago to 14.
