Whooping cough cases continue to rise in the US and worldwide, with over 2,500 suspected infections diagnosed by GPs in 2024. Fargo Cass Public Health (FCPH) is urging vaccinations against pertussis (whooping cough) due to a spike in cases in Cass County, where 29 cases have been reported since November 2023, compared to the usual range of 5 to 8 cases per year. Pertussis is highly contagious and can be life-threatening, particularly for infants under the age of one.
