NGT warns West Bengal authorities of potential fines for untreated sewage polluting Ganga River, orders 100% sewage treatment, audits, and report submissions.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) warns West Bengal authorities of potential fines for untreated sewage flowing into the Ganga River, with 258.67 million litres per day polluting the water and making it unfit for bathing. The NGT directs District Magistrates of nine districts to file affidavits setting deadlines for 100% sewage treatment and disclose fund usage from the National Mission for Clean Ganga. The NGT also orders a performance audit of each district and sets timelines for submitting new reports.
