Kenya's Ruto government took 11 new loans worth $1.57bn in 5 months for youth savings, infrastructure, electricity, and irrigation.

Kenya's Ruto government has taken 11 new loans worth $1.57 billion (Sh223.54 billion) in the last five months, according to a Treasury report. The loans were contracted from September 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, with all but one from multilateral lenders. The loans aim to promote youth savings, improve Kenya Power Company's financial viability, increase electricity and irrigation water access, and enhance urban infrastructure and services.
