The European Parliament has rejected a proposal to make mandatory medical check-ups for drivers seeking to renew their driving licenses, leaving the decision on whether license holders need to undergo tests to individual EU member states. Although 14 EU countries already have compulsory medical exams, France and Germany opposed the proposal. The EU's road safety package, which seeks to halve deaths and injuries by 2030, will proceed with plans to introduce bloc-wide digital driving licenses.
