EU lawmakers have approved draft rules governing patents essential to technologies for telecoms equipment and connected cars, aimed at ending costly and lengthy litigation. The European Parliament will now need to agree on the details with EU countries before the rules can become law. The proposal includes creating an SEP Licensing Assistance Hub and a register to verify which patents are essential and to determine fair payment for their use.
