Invasive beetle causes Ely to organize tree removal project.

Ely plans to remove and regrow numerous infested trees due to the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, which feeds on live trees and causes them to die off. The beetle has been confirmed in 50 Minnesota counties, including Renville and Pine counties, where large infestations were found. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has enacted emergency quarantines in the affected areas to limit the movement of firewood, mulch, and ash materials.
