Democrat Tom Suozzi won a special election in New York.

Democrat Tom Suozzi won a special election in New York, reducing the Republican majority in the House to 219-213. Suozzi's victory fills the vacancy left by the expulsion of Republican George Santos and narrows down the majority for Speaker Mike Johnson, who can now only afford two GOP defections on any vote. Suozzi previously served in the House and was elected to replace Santos, who faced numerous charges, including wire fraud and money laundering, and has pleaded not guilty.
