Georgia State Sen. Gloria Butler, 82, announced her retirement from the state Senate after 26 years of service. The Democratic Senate Minority Leader was first elected in 1998 and has represented parts of DeKalb and Gwinnett counties in suburban Atlanta. Butler became the first Black woman to lead the Senate Democratic Caucus in 2020.
