Former Manchester United defender John O'Shea has been appointed as interim head coach of the Republic of Ireland national team, taking charge of upcoming friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland in March. O'Shea, a former Ireland defender with 118 caps, will be joined by Paddy McCarthy as his assistant coach. The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) plans to appoint a permanent successor to Stephen Kenny in early April.
