Virginia man charged with threatening church has case taken over by federal prosecutors.

Federal prosecutors have taken over a case against a northern Virginia man, Rui Jiang, who was arrested last year on suspicion of planning a mass shooting at a megachurch in Haymarket. Local prosecutors in Prince William County dropped charges against Jiang, including attempted aggravated murder against multiple persons, allowing his prosecution at the U.S. District Court in Alexandria. Jiang was charged with making interstate threats, and a conviction on federal charges could result in longer prison sentences than a conviction on state charges.
