Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to be briefed on plans to resume operation of grounded V-22 Osprey aircraft after a fatal crash in Japan.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will be briefed on the military's plans to get the V-22 Osprey aircraft back in the air following a fatal crash in Japan. The U.S. fleet of about 400 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft has been grounded for 83 days after the crash in November that killed eight service members. The Air Force has stated it knows what failed in the Osprey, but not why it failed. Services have been working on plans to mitigate known material failures by implementing additional safety checks and a more conservative approach to operations.
