In 2021, a crane collapse in Kelowna killed five people; RCMP have now recommended at least one charge of criminal negligence causing death. Families of the victims are still awaiting answers and are concerned about a recent crane accident in Vancouver. Chris Vilness, who lost his son in the 2021 incident, is calling for better enforcement of safety rules and new regulations for crane assembly and dismantling, along with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 115. The provincial government is considering safety changes that may be announced in the coming months.
