The US Department of Transportation has approved Chinese airlines to increase their weekly direct round-trip passenger flights to the US from 35 to 50 starting March 31, returning the market to about one-third of pre-pandemic levels. This move is seen as a significant step towards the normalization of the US-China market and the recovery of the US-China flight route in anticipation of the summer travel season. The number of flights has been gradually increasing since August, when it was limited to 12 per week.
