Two men were jailed for 2.5 years and 18 months, respectively, for assaulting and robbing two American tourists in a "cowardly, nasty, and violent" attack in Dublin's Temple Bar in July 2021. Cian Cleary and Patrick McCarthy pleaded guilty to assault and robbery charges. Cleary has 61 previous convictions, while McCarthy has 18. Judge Elva Duffy called the assault "nasty" and emphasized the clear extremity of the violence in the CCTV footage.
