NASA's DART mission intentionally crashed into asteroid Dimorphos in 2022, altering its shape.

NASA's DART mission, which intentionally crashed into asteroid Dimorphos at 14,000 mph in 2022, has reshaped the asteroid's shape according to a new study. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) was designed to alter the orbit of the asteroid around its larger companion, Didymos, as a potential means of preventing a future Earth impact. The asteroid's loose "rubble-pile" composition enabled it to be reshaped by the impact.
