Chicago's South Side is set to receive its first Black-owned birthing center, the Chicago South Side Birth Center, in 2025. The nonprofit will be the city's second active midwife-led birth center, aimed at providing safe birthing alternatives in a medically underserved area. The center's opening aligns with proposed maternal health spending increases in Governor JB Pritzker's budget.
