In January 2024, 431 infrastructure projects with an investment of Rs 150 crore or more experienced cost overruns of over Rs 4.80 lakh crore, according to an official report by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). Out of 1,821 monitored projects, 431 reported cost overruns and 780 were delayed. The total initial cost of implementation was Rs 26,09,679.38 crore, with an expected completion cost of Rs 30,90,135.99 crore, indicating an overall cost overrun of 18.41% or Rs 4,80,456.61 crore.
