India's Supreme Court orders government to grant permanent commission to women officers in Indian Coast Guard.
India's Supreme Court has instructed the government to grant permanent commission to women officers in the Indian Coast Guard, threatening to intervene if the government does not act. Citing a petition filed by Coast Guard officer Priyanka Tyagi, who sought permanent commission for eligible women short-service commission officers, the court urged the government to create a gender-neutral policy. The next hearing is scheduled for March 1.
