Zong Qinghou, the founder of Chinese beverage giant Hangzhou Wahaha Group, passed away at the age of 79 after medical treatment failed. Known as a landmark figure in Chinese business history, Zong built the company from a school-run firm in 1987 into a leading enterprise with over 30,000 employees. The group appeared on the 2023 list of China's top 500 private enterprises, achieving a total operating revenue of 51.2 billion yuan ($7.2 billion) in 2022.
