Cancer Control Agency (Te Aho o Te Kahu) admits that ongoing radiation treatment delays for patients in Southland and Otago are stressful. CEO Rami Rahal acknowledged the efforts to support Southern Cancer Services after long waiting time criticism. As a result, the waiting list for first specialist appointments with a radiation oncologist has nearly halved, from 113 to 56 people. However, specialist shortages persist, requiring workforce growth and development, including recruiting overseas clinicians and retaining existing staff.
