Washington's NPR affiliate, WAMU, has shut down its local news site DCist and laid off 15 journalists, citing a shift towards an audio-focused strategy. The station plans to invest in audio storytelling, podcasts, live events, and a new local radio show. WAMU's General Manager Erika Pulley-Hayes said, "We’re making the choice to invest in what we’re better at than anyone else in this town, and that’s audio."
