Over 100 Ugandan mothers sentenced to community service and banned from Kampala for sending children to beg, in violation of child protection laws.

Over 100 Ugandan mothers have been sentenced to one month of community service for sending their children to beg in the capital, Kampala. The court also banned them from returning to the city and ordered them to be sent back to their home district of Napak. The women pleaded for leniency, with some claiming to be widows or single mothers. This practice of sending children to beg is against Uganda's child protection laws, which carry a maximum sentence of six months.
