The UK freezes assets and imposes travel bans on Russian officials.

The UK has frozen assets and imposed travel bans on six individuals in charge of the Arctic penal colony where Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny died last week. The UK is the first country to impose sanctions in response to Navalny's death. The sanctioned individuals, including the head and five deputy heads of the prison in the penal colony, will be banned from the UK and have their assets frozen. The UK government has called for a transparent investigation into Navalny's death and for his body to be released to his family.
