Canadian oil sands giant Suncor Energy reported its safest year ever in 2023, achieving its best overall employee and contractor safety performance in the company's history. This improvement comes after facing heavy criticism for an abnormally high number of workplace deaths during the previous years. CEO Rich Kruger attributes the reduction in injuries to a series of changes implemented since his appointment, including a 20% reduction in employee headcount. Suncor's fourth-quarter earnings for 2023 were $2.82 billion, an increase from the same period in 2022.
