New Zealand allocates $5M to trial technology against invasive caulerpa seaweed in marine ecosystems.

New Zealand has allocated $5 million to combat the fast-spreading exotic caulerpa seaweed, a threat to marine ecosystems. The funding will be used to trial new technology, such as suction dredge technology, to contain and eliminate caulerpa in affected areas. The initiative aims to improve tools for long-term caulerpa management and benefit marine environments in the Aotea Great Barrier, Kawau Island, Waiheke, and the wider Gulf.
