New Zealand reported a NZ$976 million merchandise trade deficit in January, according to Statistics New Zealand, exceeding the expected shortfall of NZ$200 million. Exports fell to NZ$4.93 billion from NZ$5.85 billion in December, while imports decreased to NZ$5.91 billion from NZ$6.22 billion. The year-to-January trade deficit reached NZ$12.50 billion.
