Metra, Chicago's commuter rail agency, has approved a $335.4M contract to purchase battery-powered trainsets, making them one of the first in the US to operate battery technology. With the purchase, Metra aims to reduce emissions and noise, and plans to use the trains on the Rock Island Line. The trains will be built by Stadler U.S. and will include eight, two-car battery-powered trainsets with an option for additional sets and trailer cars.
