Malaysia's Federal Court upholds the constitutionality of vernacular schools.

Malaysia's Federal Court has dismissed an appeal by two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) seeking to challenge the constitutionality of vernacular schools and the use of Chinese and Tamil languages as mediums of instruction. The court's majority two-one decision upholds the Court of Appeal's ruling from November 2021, which declared vernacular schools constitutional. This means the use of Chinese and Tamil in teaching and learning in national-type Chinese and Tamil primary schools is now considered within the right and protected under Article 152 of the Federal Constitution.
